In collaboration with Violabox Art Gallery in Genova Italy,
MF Gallery is proud to present:

"BE MY VALENTINE"

Love has always been one of the most represented subjects in art history. From the Sacred to the Profane, each era has had its own versions, depending on the style of the times.

Greek sculptures, Roman frescoes, rare romantic depictions in Medieval art, “Venus and Cupid” by Giovanni Battista Paggi, “The Kiss” by Auguste Rodin, “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt, “LOVE” by Robert Indiana, various “Untitled Hearts” by Keith Haring… The examples are too many to list. Almost every artist has been inspired by this feeling. Love is one of the greatest motivators to creativity.

Now the theme is being reinterpreted by the international artists of MF Gallery and Violabox…
The “love affair” between these two galleries began in 2009 with their first collaborative exhibit, and it continues with the exchange of artists from one continent to the other.

MF Gallery has been open since 2003 in New York City, and also had a location in the historical center of Genova for 5 years. They were among the first to bring lowbrow / pop surrealism to Italy.
Since 2007 Violabox Gallery has been hosting art shows in its location on Via Trebisonda in Genova, as well as many site specific installations in alternative spaces around the city.

The artwork showing ranges from Isadora Bucciarelli’s architectural sculptures, to an installation by Rudy Dore, Fernando Carpaneda’s Punk Rock Love, Loving couples by Macchiavello, Martina Secondo Russo’s Tattooed Hands and a heart made of skulls by Frank Russo. The show also features many drawings and paintings by: Anonymous Art, Luigi Copello, Benedetta De Benedetti, Erica Doll, Rudy Fig, Giorgio Fracassi, Silvano Galifi, Gregorio Giannotta, Scott Holloway, Sergio Leta, Drew Maillard, Angie Mason, Marcello Mogni, Morg, Filippo Nicotra, Marco Puerari, Marco Rea, Gianluca Sturman, Etienne Zerah and other international artists.

This year, we give you an alternative to the usual Valentine’s Day gifts… Flowers die, chocolates get eaten, but a work of art is forever!

Bring your loved one to the opening party, on Saturday February 1st at 6pm, where you can chose a work of art that represents your love for each other... Then, on Valentine’s Day, Friday February 14th at 6pm, join us for a romantic drink among the romantic art… Celebrate this special holiday with MF Gallery and Violabox!

“Be My Valentine” will be on view until March 22nd, 2014 at Violabox Art Gallery, Via Trebisonda 56c Genova, Italy. All of the art can also be viewed and purchased online at: www.MFgallery.net/Valentine/Vday.html International shipping is available.
