| "JESUS CRISP and other stories” (Anonymous Art Solo Show) L’ironia
creata dal’unione di immagini Pop e grottesche MF
Gallery Genova: Vico Dietro Il Coro Della Maddalena 26a Genova, Italy Elena Bertoni (Pisa, 1977) e Simone Romano (Livorno, 1978) dal 2000 lavorano insieme con lo pseudonimo di “Anonymous Art”. Nei loro dipinti, i soggetti principali poggiano su fondi damascati tipici dell'età vittoriana di cui gli artisti richiamano l’atmosfera. A queste figure vengono accostati simboli esoterici, raffigurazioni tratte da incisioni antiche e soggetti puramente pop di un'iconografia moderna. Nelle loro opere compaiono spesso due figure che hanno un'essenza opposta alludendo alla duplicità dell'animo umano, la doppia natura del “buono” e del “cattivo”, pero` senza esprimere giudizi di parte. Sono questi i principali soggetti di “JESUS CRISP and other stories”, protagonisti della serie di piccoli acrilici dipinti su carte antiche dai quali prende il nome la mostra. Gli artisti definiscono le proprie realizzazioni come piccoli racconti, in questo caso la carta utilizzata dialoga direttamente con i soggetti. Il materiale originale che fa da base al dipinto acrilico sono pagine di libri antichi, breviari cattolici o libri di medicina di inizio ‘900. E' dal testo che vengono associate le idee e le immagini, che in modo irriverente e satirico ci parlano da due mondi contrapposti. Le immagini dell'infanzia e dei cartoon si legano con ironia al testo. Queste piccole opere, nell'insieme richiamano certi luoghi sacri con reliquiari ed ex-voto, formando una sorta di divertito e divertente dialogo a metà strada tra il gioco e la profanazione. La chiave universale di lettura per queste opere resta indiscutibilmente l'ironia, un'ironia però che mai si confonde con la leggerezza di interpretazione. “JESUS CRISP and other stories” sara` in mostra a MF Gallery Genova dal 14 maggio 2011, fino al 25 giugno 2011. "JESUS CRISP and other stories” (Anonymous Art Solo Show) The
juxtaposition of pop and grotesque images with Victorian style backgrounds
and pages from antique books. MF Gallery Genova: Vico Dietro Il Coro Della Maddalena 26a Genova, Italy
Elena Bertoni (Pisa, 1977) and Simone Romano (Livorno, 1978) have been working together as “Anonymous Art” since the year 2000. In their paintings, the subjects float on Victorian style backgrounds or antique paper, recalling the atmosphere of that era. Their pieces often depict two central figures who represent opposite essences, (“good” and “evil”) alluding to the duplicity of the human soul, without passing judgment on either one. These are the primary subjects of “JESUS CRISP and other stories”. The two artists define their creations as “little stories”. The paper they paint on, (pages of antique books, catholic prayer books or medical books from the 1800’s) is in a direct dialogue with the subjects. The texts from these pages are what inspire the ideas and images. The cartoon characters they paint are ironically tied to the texts, poking fun at the opposite world from which they originate. These small pieces are displayed in elaborately carved antique frames. Seeing them all together is reminiscent of certain religious spaces, (with reliquaries and ex-voto) generating a feeling that walks the line between game and profanity. “JESUS CRISP and other stories” will be on view at MF Gallery Genova from May 14 2011, until June 25 2011.
